三藩市三街灣景獵人角區,是三藩市最後一項重建計劃,政府規定發展商必須撥出及興建可負擔房屋。一位越南華僑在三街找到她嚮往的晚年生活。

65歲的陳愛華,20多年前逃避共產政權,由越南移民來美國。移民生涯經歷不少波折,現在她雖然兒孫滿堂,不過仍嚮往獨立的生活。她在三藩市三街找到屬於自己的小天地。

陳愛華剛搬進三藩市三街夾Armstrong街,新落成的老人公寓,一房一廳月租215元,更幸運的是她從家中的窗口,就看到對面她女兒的家。

陳愛華的女兒申請購買三街的可負擔房屋時,經紀告訴陳愛華隔壁是老人公寓,鼓勵她申請,結果被抽中。

陳愛華說: 「嘩,真的?我好開心。我開心得差不多哭出來,有錢也買不到。」

陳愛華是中法混血兒,父親是法國人。為了逃避共產政權,追求自由,她小時候從北越搬到南越。1983年陳愛華與丈夫決定 帶子女移民來美國,「我挨了八年共產政權,沒有工作,賣了自己的積蓄,賣黃金換食物,來美國時兩手空空。」

來到自由的金山,一家人最初住在越南裔聚居的田德隆區,陳愛華做過酒店收拾房間的工作,做過護士助理照顧臨終的愛滋病人,後來失業遷到亞里桑那州鳳凰城找工作,「後來我丈夫搬來大約兩年後他過世,我兒子見父親過世對我說,媽媽,你一個人,不如回來三藩市。」

陳愛華有四個子女,六個孫,全部住在灣區,常常聚在一起。除了廚藝了得,陳愛華平常到老人中心做義工,幫助人之餘,還學到做針紙和裝飾品的手藝。她說起初移民來美時,依賴過政府的福利,現在盡力回饋社會。多才多藝的她更有語言天分,用英語和鏡頭說「我本想送這條毯子給孫女,可是我做的只有這一張,還是留給自己。」

「兒孫自有兒孫福,如果年紀大了自己出來住,子女負擔輕些,有時你給他們無形壓力,他們不曉得。你搬出來住,他更關心你。」

這所全新的老人公寓,有許多非洲裔和亞裔居民。陳愛華願意當溝通的橋樑。她對華裔鄰居說,「我不敢說做翻譯,不過能幫忙就幫忙。」

三街這棟新蓋的老人屋代表灣景區新的社區,多元化,充滿挑戰與新鮮感。

在山上的老人中心,反映非洲裔在這兒原有的社區,就像一個大家庭,在分享和緬懷彼此的回憶,不過他們也歡迎新的臉孔。

這一輯的”同一片天”快到尾聲,然而人與人之間的相處,微妙的互動會繼續下去,當大家遇到膚色不同的人士,不妨想一想,也許我們的過去,現在和將來,有許多相似的地方,也許我們可以彼此打個招呼,嘗試做個朋友。
