The Gilroy Garlic Festival will be celebrating 40 years of family fun on July 27, 28, and 29, 2018, at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy, California. The Gilroy Garlic Festival has been officially certified by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® as the world’s largest garlic festival and draws over 100,000 guests from around the world. Fremont Main Library Fremont

Fitness at Fremont Main provides a great opportunity to get moving and enjoy various workouts with certified and experienced instructors. Learn about new fitness activities and have fun with your neighbors. Classes usually take place on the fourth Saturday of each month starting at 2:00 p.m.

In July, we will feature Belly Dance with Azra in the Fukaya Room on Saturday, July 28, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Learn the basic hip movements, body isolations and more of belly dancing from instructor Azra, who has been teaching belly dance since 1998. Hip scarves will be provided. Bring water as well as towels or even your own hip scarves and wear comfortable clothes. All are welcome!

The Fremont Main Library, a branch of the Alameda County Library system, is located at 2400 Stevenson Boulevard and is wheelchair accessible. Do our roots and culture have anything to offer us in these modern times? How can we communicate and connect with our children and parents? Can a family draw upon the Buddha’s wisdom and traditions for a happy, harmonious family?

This residential camp will be led by two senior Buddhist monastics, Rev. Ming-Kuang and Rev. Heng Sure. Activities include:
• Connecting through Storytelling: Connecting parents and children through cross-generational sharing of stories that reveal our values, culture and heritage.
• Serving with Joy: Children and parents joining together to serve, assist and clean up in the spirit of community and generosity.
• Eating as a Family: Fostering wholesome practices in which families share a meal together with meaningful conversation.
• Caring for Parents: Empowering children by engaging them in significant roles within the family through simple acts of care and kindness.
• Learning Meditation and Mindfulness: Learning meditation and mindfulness as a method of bringing awareness to our lives and transforming our habits and relationships.
Come join a fun camp of story telling, music and connecting with our roots.

請來參加作者Jackson Fahnestock的書作Shu Wei’s Revenge介紹講座。故事講述了1898年中國鄉村的一個書記官 Shu Wei 迫於惡勢力,不得不背井離鄉。他們移民到了三藩市唐人街,卻陷入了複雜的地下社會。故事情節隨著主人公爲了生存和捍衛自己的尊嚴而變得錯綜複雜。Jackson的寫作也得益於他本人作爲一個建築師經常游走東亞和東南亞之間的經歷。講座後將有作者售簽活動。本書贏得了紐約Big Book獎並進入了2015年William Faulkner-William 智慧創意寫作競賽半決賽。
