Mobile video app Vine rolled out a slate of new features this week, as it competes with Instagram.
Twitter’s video-sharing service Vine seemed to be climbing steadily after its january launch for apple devices, adding Android users last month.
Then, Facebook-owned Instagram entered the ring.
Already 130 million users strong thanks to its photo-sharing capabilities, the addition of video to Instagram may have slowed Vine’s growth. So twitter’s six-second video app has added a few new tricks.
In addition to a new look for the app’s camera, users can now “re-vine,” sharing the posts of others with their followers, much like a retweet.
Vine has also added 15 themed channels for easier searches – including categories for videos related to music, sports, food and of course, cats.
There are also new tabs for what’s popular now and what’s becoming more popular among Vine users.
And vine users now have the option to make their profile private. like Twitter, others will have to request permission before they follow a feed and view posts.
The new Vine features are currently available on apple devices, with updates to the android version coming soon.
