Ukraine’s Defence Ministry said on Wednesday that two military jets have been shot down in eastern Ukraine by pro-Russian separatists, as amateur footage appeared online purporting to show one of the crash sites.
Officials said the Su-25s were shot about 30 kilometres (20 miles) south of the wreckage of the Malaysia Airlines passenger plane, that was shot down last week.
Andriy Lysenko, spokesman for Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, said preliminary information suggests the planes were shot by missiles launched from Russia.
Meanwhile, pro-Russian separatist website icorpus.ru has released footage of plane wreckage in a field.
In the video, armed men search the crash site and discuss the whereabouts of the pilot – who they believe to have survived.
