As Thanksgiving approaches, one local church is helping to make sure community members have a turkey on their table this Thursday.

Today, the Saint Joseph Church in Cupertino handed out more then 100 turkeys and food boxes. Sharon Miedermaier who is Outreach Thanksgiving facilitator of the church said they feel blessed for people’s generous donations this year. “We almost have less this close to Thanksgiving because so much has been given out during the year when people are in need. I wouldn’t say our donation have decreased, however, the request for non-perishable items have increased.”

Volunteer Catherine Chen donated 1000 dollars to the church for buying turkeys. She worked as translator today for the church to help those food recipients that don’t speak English. She encouraged Chinese young people to join this kind of charitable event as volunteers during the holiday season.
