Three employees suffered moderate to serious burns in an industrial accident at the Tesla Motors plant in Fremont this afternoon, a fire spokesman said.
Firefighters received a report of an industrial accident at the plant around 11:55 a.m., Capt. Daniel Cardenas said.
Tesla officials said in a statement that there “was a failure in a low pressure aluminum casting press… Three employees were injured by hot metal from that press. We are making sure that they receive the best possible care.”
Tesla Motors is located at 45500 Fremont Blvd., off of Interstate Highway 880.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health sent a team to the Fremont plant this afternoon to conduct interviews with management and witnesses and look at the work site’s safety plan, Cal/Osha spokeswoman Kathleen Hennessy said.
They have opened an investigation into a case that will be completed within six months, Hennessy said.
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center spokeswoman Joy Alexiou said the hospital had received the three patients but that she could nnot disclose their conditions.
