LOS ANGELES (AP) – Authorities say a man who shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in the face later used his infant son as a shield before being shot by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
City News Service reports the man opened fire on deputies late Sunday while holding the baby outside his ex’s home in Willowbrook.
Deputies held their fire until the woman managed to grab the child and bring him inside. Then deputies shot the suspect. He was hospitalized in critical condition. His name wasn’t released.
The woman’s new boyfriend, who was shot while sitting in a car, is expected to survive his injuries.
The child, about a year old, wasn’t hurt.
Lt. John Corina described the case as a combination love triangle and attempted suicide by cop.
