Student groped on Santa Rosa campus, police seek suspect

Santa Rosa Junior High School District police said a female student was groped on campus last month, police said Wednesday.

The woman said the sexual battery occurred around 9 a.m. on Oct. 27, and she reported it the same day, according to a new release by campus police.

The student said she was walking up the middle staircase to the second-floor landing in Maggini Hall when a male grabbed her around the waist from behind and groped her groin area outside her clothing, police said.

When the woman screamed and pulled away, the male let go and fled down the staircase to the first floor, police said.

No one else was in the area and there are no witnesses, police said. Police checked the area but did not locate the suspect.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man about 25 years old and 5 feet 7 inches with a medium to thick build.

He was wearing a washed out blue hoodie-style sweatshirt and a baseball hat.

Police Lt. Robert Brownlee said an oversight by someone in the police department caused the delay in publicizing the incident to the community. Brownlee said Maggini Hall houses business classrooms.

The incident happened on a Friday when student attendance is significantly less than Mondays through Thursdays, Brownlee said.
