Soldier Danny Chen’s suspicious death

Army Pvt. Danny Chen, 19, who grew up in Chinatown died on Oct. 3, in in Afghanistan. His body was found in a guard tower. He died from a gunshot would to the head. A spokesman for the US Criminal Investigations Command said that an investigation into the incident is ongoing. According to the New York Times, Chen’s parents reportedly said military personnel informed them that their son had been subjected to harassment and physical abuse by fellow soldiers and may have committed suicide. Chen’s funeral was on Oct.13 in New York’s Chinatown. He is the only child of the family.
Chen had only been in the military since January, completed basic and advanced training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and went to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, in May. He was deployed to Afghanistan in August, according to the military.

Sunnyvale City Councilmember Otto Lee who is also a Navy reservist who was stationed at Camp Victory in Baghdad — a base that was attacked by insurgents several times. He said any racial harassment or bullying in the military is not tolerated.
