SAN JOSE (BCN)

A registered sex offender was arrested in San Jose early Tuesday morning after a woman awoke to find him inside her home, police said.

The woman, who lives in the first block of Southbrook Drive near where U.S. Highway 101 meets state Highway 85, woke up at about 3:15 a.m., saw the man standing over her and screamed, police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

She ran out of her home, and the man also fled, police said.

Officers responded to the home within about a minute and a half, Dwyer said. The suspect was found nearby and arrested.

He was identified as a 29-year-old transient and registered sex offender who was on parole for burglary, Dwyer said. Police have not yet released the man’s name.

The woman was not injured, and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
