According to the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, U.S. companies have filed over 32,500 H-1B petitions since April. That is almost triple the number compared to the same time last year . “They are hiring many Americans, but they are also looking for people with very special skills. And often times, they can’t find American workers to fill these jobs,” said Emily Lam of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group.
A total of 65,000 H-1B visas are allowed for the current fiscal year and executives from high tech companies have been calling for more. Last month, the Silicon Valley ,Leadership Group traveled to Washington, D.C. with a delegation of executives lobbying for immigration reform and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.
