Silent march mourns couple killed in MH 17 crash

Hundreds of mourners walked silently in pouring rain through Rotterdam late on Monday to commemorate a couple who ran a popular Chinese restaurant in the port city.

Jenny Loh and Popo Fan were among the passengers killed when Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down in the rebel-controlled area of eastern Ukraine.

Floral tributes were laid outside their restaurant in Rotterdam on Monday.

The jet travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was downed on Thursday, killing all 298 people onboard.

The Netherlands was the nation hardest hit by the tragedy, having lost 193 citizens.

“A lot of people in the Netherlands are feeling bad,” said Han Hegger, who joined others to march in silence in support of the victims.

The Dutch have widely condemned the way the bodies of the victims have been treated in Ukraine and the fact they have not yet been returned home.

There is no formal day of national mourning yet for the victims, but across the country local commemorations were held.
