One person was killed and at least 24 were injured in a bus blast on Monday in the city of Yibin in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, local municipal authorities said.
A person was confirmed dead on the spot and the 24 injured were sent to nearby hospitals.
The blast happened at 16:50 when the bus was traveling along the Nanmen Bridge, said Hu Jingwen, a 12-year-old girl, who survived the blast slightly injured as she was sitting on the last row of the vehicle.
Hu said she smelled gasoline before a fire suddenly broke out near the back door of the bus. She managed to escape from the back window together with two of her classmates.
She is receiving treatment at Yibin’s No. 3 People’s Hospital. According to hospital authorities, eight injured people are receiving treatment and 16 others were taken to two other hospitals.
Around 50 passengers were on the bus, and most of them escaped through the front door, Hu added.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
