San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee announced his 6-year plan for police and firefighter recruitment.
The Mayor says, “I think what we are trying to do is prevent us from being in a position where we are gonna be paying for it the other way.
We started out with a long term plan. He explained his aim to bring the total number of full time police officers to meet the city charter mandate of 1,971.
SFPD plans to hold 6 Police Academy classes and hire 300 officers over the next 2 years, and then continue to hire 3 classes of 50 officers each until 2018.
The San Francisco Fire Department will also hold 6 Fire Academy classes to restore staff levels in order to use less overtime.
