San Mateo police seek suspect who videotaped woman

Police asked for the public’s help in finding a suspicious person accused of videotaping and stalking a 20-year-old woman in San Mateo last week.

The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. Wednesday at a business in the 1700 block of South Delaware Street, according to San Mateo police.

Police said the suspect is described as an Asian man between 19 and 25 years old who is between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

The suspect followed and videotaped the victim, then exited the store and stood by the victim’s car. The suspect walked away as the victim approached the vehicle and the victim smelled a strong, unpleasant odor emitting from an oily liquid spread inside the car, police said.

Officers responded to search for the suspect but could not find him.

San Mateo police Monday released a sketch of the suspect and are asking the public for help in identifying him. Investigators are also looking into whether the suspect was involved in similar incidents previously.

Anyone with any information about the case can contact Detective A. Von Glahn at (650) 522-7665.
