SAN MATEO (BCN)
A San Mateo man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a suspected hate crime from last Saturday, police said.
Santos Manuel Marquez, 36, is believed to have violently attacked a 55-year-old San Mateo resident with a bicycle U-lock, police said.
The victim was walking in the area of East Third Avenue and South Eldorado Street, heading to Santa Inez Avenue, when he was attacked, police said.
The victim believes he was targeted because of his sexual orientation, according to police.
The man was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries and is expected to survive, police said.
After investigating for the next several days, Marquez was approached by police Wednesday at a home in the 300 block of North Humboldt Street and he attempted to flee out a window, police said.
After a short chase, police caught up to Marquez and arrested him, police said.
He was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated mayhem and perpetration of a hate crime.
