San Leandro: Man tries luring girl into his car

Police are investigating a report that a man tried to kidnap a 13-year-old girl as she walked to school in San Leandro on Tuesday morning.

Around 9:25 a.m., the girl, a student at Bancroft Middle School, was approached by a man in a car as she walked near the school, located at 1150 Bancroft Ave., according to police

The suspect pulled up alongside the girl and told her that her mother had instructed him to give her a ride, police said.

The girl refused to get in the car and continued walking to school, where she told staff about the incident.
