SAN LEANDRO (BCN)
Three people posing as water company employees attempted to burglarize a San Leandro home on Sunday and police are warning residents to be alert for possible scammers.
The three suspects approached a home on the 800 block of Kenyon Avenue around 2 p.m., according to Lt. Randall Brandt.
Two of them went into the home’s backyard, where they were confronted by a resident.
The subjects, one of whom was carrying a clipboard, said they were with a water company, but the citizen immediately told them to leave, and they did, Brandt said.
A third suspect also entered the home without permission, and another resident inside instructed him to leave, Brandt said.
All three suspects left in a smaller light-colored pickup truck with tool attachments, and were last seen driving toward Interstate Highway 580, Brandt said.
The suspects were described as two white men in their 30s, between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, and a white woman around 30 years old with a thin build and dark hair.
Brandt said similar scams have occurred in recent months in San Leandro and throughout the Bay Area. The burglars tend to work in pairs and often target the elderly.
“If subjects show up to your residence unannounced and claim they are there for business purposes don’t hesitate to report this activity to our dispatch center,” Brandt said. “We will continue to work with our community and neighboring agencies to help us identify these suspects.”
