SAN JOSE (BCN)
Two teenagers killed in a crash late Saturday night have been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as 19-year-old Fabian Perez and 16-year-old Salvador Fernandez.
Perez and Fernandez, both of San Jose, were driving with three other males in a 1999 Ford Contour when the car apparently crashed into a tree in the center divide of Chynoweth Avenue near Derek Drive at 11:55 p.m. Saturday, police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.
Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. Fernandez was taken to a hospital, but succumbed to his injures around 2 a.m., police said.
All three other passengers are expected to survive.
It appears the car was moving west on Chynoweth Avenue at a high rate of speed when it struck the tree. No other cars appear to have been involved, police said.
It has not been determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by San Jose police.
