SAN JOSE (BCN)

Police took a man into custody this morning who allegedly brandished a firearm and then injured himself in a car crash about 12 hours after three people were gunned down in San Jose, a spokesman said.

At about 12:14 a.m., police were notified that a man had displayed a gun in a parking lot in the 300 block of North Jackson Avenue in East San Jose, police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

Officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle unoccupied off of Berryessa Road in East San Jose but could not locate him in the neighborhood, Dwyer said.

At about 6 a.m., an employee of a business in the 900 block of Lundy Avenue just south of Berryessa Road reported a suspicious male who fit the description of the suspect, Dwyer said.

While searching the area, police located the suspect who had crashed a reported stolen car on Commodore Drive and also recovered the suspect’s gun, Dwyer said.

The suspect was admitted to a hospital, Dwyer said.

No information was released about the suspect’s identity or why he was arrested.

Police are also investigating three homicides from Sunday that involved firearms.

The first shooting resulted in the death of two male teens, aged 15 and 17, in the area of Rhinehart Drive and Clogstone Court in East San Jose, Dwyer said.

At about 6:30 p.m., police responded to a 911 call and found both boys suffering from at least one gunshot wound. One boy died at the scene, the other at a hospital, Dwyer said.

The suspect or suspects in the case are still at large and police are not releasing the names of the boys until the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office can confirm them with family members, Dwyer said.

Later that night, at about 10:10 p.m., police learned that a person had been shot in the 100 block of Hayes Avenue in South San Jose, Dwyer said.

The male victim, hit at least once by gunfire, was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m., Dwyer said.

Police also have declined to release the victim’s name.

Investigators do not know if any of the homicides were gang-related.
