SAN JOSE (BCN)

A man was shot and killed in East San Jose Thursday evening in what the alleged shooter is saying was self defense during an attempted break-in, according to police.

Shots were reported on the 3500 block of Pine Ridge Way in East San Jose just before 8 p.m., according to Officer Albert Morales.

When officers arrived on the scene the caller told them that an unknown subject had attempted to break into his home and fired shots in his direction, Morales said.

The caller was not injured, but said he had armed himself and fired at the suspect in self defense, Morales said.

Two people were seen getting into a vehicle and driving away at high speeds.

Police could not locate the suspects or vehicle, but were notified a short time later that a man had been dropped off at an area hospital with at least one gun shot wound, Morales said. The man was declared dead at the hospital.

Police believe the man was involved in the incident on Pine Ridge Way.

The death is being investigated as the city’s eighth homicide of the year. The deceased man’s identity has not yet been released, and the investigation is ongoing, Morales said.
