San Jose State University police are searching Sweeney Hall on the college campus this morning after receiving a report of a gunman, a police dispatcher said.

University police received a call at around 9 a.m. about a gunman seen at the building, which is across from police headquarters in the southern part of the campus near San Salvador Street, according to the dispatcher.

A student-employee at the Spartan Bookstore said at about 9:50 a.m. that staff had locked the store doors and employees were sheltering in place. There were no customers in the store, she said.

The employee said she had received an alert on her cellphone about the situation and was told to stay inside.
