MANTECA, Calif. (AP) – A 21-year-old man is facing charges in Central California in the slaying of girlfriend’s 19-month-old daughter.
The Record of Stockton reports that (http://bit.ly/1ap3mTl ) Longino Lamont Tolefree Jr. was arrested at his workplace in Lathrop on Monday evening. San Joaquin County prosecutor Claire Van Vuren said he appeared in court on Wednesday on charges of child abuse resulting in death and corporal injury to a child, but did not enter a plea.
He was assigned to the public defender’s office. Van Vuren did not know which attorney from the office would be representing him.
Police say Tolefree took the toddler to a Manteca hospital on Saturday and told investigators he had medical problems. An autopsy, however, determined the toddler was the victim of homicide.
The exact cause of death has not been released.
