Oakland: One person killed in day of shootings


One person was killed Thursday afternoon in a shooting near 77th and Bancroft avenues, an Oakland police official said.

The shooting, which occurred around 4 p.m., was one several shootings reported Thursday in East Oakland, according to police.

The first occurred around 11:15 a.m. near 89th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said.

The two victims suffered injuries not considered life-threatening, Watson said.

A second shooting occurred around 1 p.m. when one person was shot on the 8800 block of Holly Street, according to police.

The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.

A police official this evening said the fatal shooting occurred around 4 p.m. near 77th and Bancroft avenues, but did not have further details.

An AC Transit bus was struck by gunfire at 78th and Bancroft avenues around the same time, according to an AC Transit spokesman.

The bus was struck by gunfire three times around 4:05 p.m., but the operator and passengers on board were not injured in the shooting, AC Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson said.
