The entire society should take responsibility for the worsening air quality and pay more attention on rural doctors, said a deputy of National People’s Congress (NPC) on Monday.

Zhong Nanshan, a renowned medical expert and also a NPC deputy, has prepared two proposals for the annual session of the 12th National People’s Congress set open on Tuesday.

One is about the study on air quality while the other is about the research and investigation results he had done over the status of rural doctors, said Zhong.

“We should not just blame the government when it comes to the fog issue. It is an issue the whole society, all the enterprises and the general public should take responsibility together. As I said, restaurants, residential areas, factory emissions are all involved. It is not just about the government. The key is that people have to change their mind and consider it as a systematic project that we are all involved,” said the NPC deputy.

“The air pollution will continue if the government could not bring long-term measures in place. The issue should be taken seriously and connected with the performance of various government terms. In this way, the air quality will be improved within ten years, instead of the 18 years set set by the government,” said Zhong.

On the other hand, Zhong has been concentrating on the researches case studies on the situation of country doctor in China’s remote villages.

“I had seen the rural doctors’ working conditions, payment and health status. And I had a strong feeling that I have to do the investigations on them. I held seminars and interviewed some of them, trying to analyze their situations, payment, social welfare and other aspects,” he said.

“The group of rural doctors are always recognized as lacking authorized post in health sector, career outlook, education, pension insurance, it is a big problem,” added Zhong.
