A Portland fire official says there are no reports of injuries from a fire aboard a charter bus that was carrying high school football players to a game.
Portland Fire Bureau Lt. Rich Chatman said the bus caught fire late Thursday afternoon on busy U.S. Highway 26. Early callers told dispatchers they could see fire coming from the bottom of the bus as the driver evacuated those on board.
The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/mWxfHI ) that Central Catholic High School head football coach Steve Pyne says the bus carried two coaches and about 45 junior varsity players. He says “everybody is safe.”
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
The fire slowed Thursday evening rush hour traffic on U.S. 26 and several other highways.
