KTSF Mandarin News

Award-winning news anchor Pei-chun Liao is an anchor for KTSF's nightly Mandarin News. Pei has been involved in Bay Area's Chinese-American broadcasting for over ten years and joined the KTSF news team in spring of 2000. Prior to KTSF, she applied her creative talents to several radio and television programs since graduating from San Francisco State University's Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department.

As a contributing reporter, Pei traveled to Taiwan in 2006 to cover the Red-shirt Army movement, one of the biggest political protests in Taiwan's history. In addition, Pei’s report on Iris Chang's suicide and her legacy in 2005 was awarded "Best News Reporting" by the Northern California Chinese Media Association.

Pei is also specialized in feature reporting. Her 2002 TV feature report entitled "Open Your Heart, Embrace Life" brought to light the issue of mental health, which many in the Asian community perceive as taboo. This news feature also won Pei the "Best Feature Writing Award" from the Northern California Chinese Media Association in 2003. Due to Pei's continuous reports on mental health issues, KTSF was presented an appreciation proclamation by Chinese American Mental Health Network. In 2003, Pei received a proclamation by Chinese Women's Association of America in San Francisco for her contributions to the community and outstanding journalistic performance. In 2006, Pei received Kudos Award of Excellence for Best Non-English Anchor by American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT).

During her career in radio broadcasting, Pei-chun Liao was anchor, and reporter for a variety of live talk show programs for Sing Tao Chinese Information Radio. In her early television career, Pei was the energetic host/co-producer of KTSF’s "Mandarin Showcase", a Chinese weekly magazine-show highlighted people, events, and places in the Bay Area. Her experience also includes a dot-com venture where she was the host/producer of a web-cast project, which profiled local Chinese-American CEO's of emerging Silicon Valley high-tech companies. She became KTSF's Mandarin anchorwoman in 2000.

Pei was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the U.S. in 1991. She continues to be very active in the local community, and volunteers her personal time to promote mental health awareness.
