Jo Wan

Reporter / Anchor
KTSF Mandarin News

Jo Wan was born and raised in Taiwan. She graduated from the World College of Journalism in Taiwan with a major in Radio and Television and received her BA degree in Mass Communication from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.

After she graduated from UOP, she was recruited by Taiwan's first cable television station, Taiwan News Network, as a reporter and anchor for the network's newscasts. During her two years at TNN, she co-hosted the network's live coverage of the two major democratic elections in the history of Taiwan; the 1994 directly elected Taipei Mayoral Election and the 1996 directly elected Taiwan President Election.

Ms. Wan came to the U.S. in 1996. She anchored the Mandarin News and hosted the weekly "Face to Face" program for KPST CH66 from July through December 2000. She has received awards from the Northern California Chinese Media Association for Best Reporting (1998 and 2000), and Best Feature Writing (1999). Jo Wan specialized in covering human-interest stories relating to cancer patients and the elderly. In one story the eight-year old daughter of a cancer patient who was featured, told Ms. Wan that the tape will be the most precious prize to enable me to remember my mother". Her report on the story won her the Best In-Depth TV News Award from New California Media in 2001.

Prior to joining the KTSF Mandarin news team, Ms. Wan worked briefly in Silicon Valley in the computer industry. She feels this experience enhanced her understanding about the life style and needs of Silicon Valley.
