News photographer robbed in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)

Police are searching for suspects who robbed a news photographer at gunpoint while he was on assignment in West Oakland.

The Oakland Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1h61mQC ) Ross Cameron with the Bay Area News Group was held up late Tuesday near 29th and West streets.

The two male suspects robbed him of his two cameras and two lenses before fleeing in a car.

No injuries were reported.

Police are offering up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest.

According to the Tribune, in recent years, several news photographers and television camera crews have been robbed of their equipment in Oakland. Another BANG photographer was held up twice at gunpoint.

The newspaper says some TV stations now send armed guards with media crews covering stories in Oakland.
