Oakland, CA – On January 27, Golden Gate Warriors host an event celebrating Lunar New Year as part of The National Basketball Association’s (NBA) first-ever NBA Chinese New Year Celebration. For the week of January 21-28 the NBA and the Warriors pay tribute to the league’s Chinese fan base with live games, customized coverage and a variety of NBA-themed events in China and the U.S..
Inside of the stadium, cultural entertainment includes Chinese folk dance and lion dancing. Miss 2011 Chinatown USA pageant queen June Quan also greets the audience.
The NBA, with the support of its television and digital partners in China, will recognize and celebrate the Year of the Dragon with customized coverage of 21 games across CCTV 5, BTV, GDTV, GZTV, NowTV, NBA TV, Sina, and Tencent.
Tonights game is the Golden State Warriors vs. Oklahoma City Thunder. Performers attending the event are excited about the celebration. Peter Kim from East Bay Youth Center says, “It’s a great thing. We’re the young people in the community and don’t always have access to an opportunity like this.”
Dancer Allayne Low says, “This is the biggest one we’ve done so far, and it’s an honor to be here to celebrate lunar new year.” Another dancer Ashley Liu also adds, “This performance is really big to us. We’re really grateful to be here with the NBA to support and celebrate Chinese new year with these guys.”
During the week-long program, NBA players will also show their appreciation on TV by saying “Happy Chinese New Year” to their Chinese fans.
