A mountain lion that wandered out of the rural hills and into a populated part of the San Francisco Bay Area was safely tranquilized after it was cornered under a car in an apartment parking garage.

The San Francisco Chronicle says (http://bit.ly/1s2IshU) the big cat was spotted roaming an apartment complex Tuesday near Rengstorff Park in Mountain View.

A resident was able to snap a cell phone photo that allowed authorities to determine the animal was a mountain lion, and that it had a tracking collar.

Police Sgt. Saul Jaeger says the big cat made it easy for state game wardens when it walked into the gated parking garage, which essentially is a big cage.

Wardens were able to corner the animal under a car. It was tranquilized and safely removed.
