The Millbrae City Council voted 3-2 late Tuesday, in favor of contracting out police services to the San Mateo County Sheriff. The sheriff’s office will offer employment to full time Millbrae police officers and employees.

Millbrae becomes the third city to outsource its police force to the county sheriff following San Carlos and Half Moon Bay.

City Manager of San Carlos Jeff Maltbie says the city government monitored outsourced police services and conducted surveys,
to find that level of services are maintained and residents are satisfied.

Millbrae Councilmembers Paul Seto and Nadia Holober voted against outsourcing, considering the city inappropriate to make such a sudden decision when new members of the council will take office in 2 months.
