University of California at Berkeley police are looking for a man who impersonated a campus escort and walked a female student home on Friday night.

The student was waiting for a “BearWALK” safety escort at Shattuck and University avenues when the suspect approached her around 11:15 p.m., police said.

Thinking the suspect was an actual escort, the student walked with him to her home, where he asked to use her bathroom. When he was done, he asked the student to perform a sexual act on him, police said.

When she refused, he left without making any physical contact with her, police said.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned white man in his mid-20s, who is about 6 feet tall and weighs roughly 200 pounds. He has long blond, braided hair and a blond goatee, and was wearing sunglasses and a tan jacket with the word “Bear” on the lapel.

Police are reminding students that a BearWALK escort wears a yellow or blue uniform with the “Community Service Officer” label and a university-issued identification badge with their full name.

Investigators have released a sketch of the suspect. Anyone with information on Friday’s incident is asked to call Detective Brendan Tinney at (510) 642-3658.
