A man wearing a black skull mask robbed two fast food restaurants at gunpoint less than 20 minutes apart in Salinas on Wednesday, a police commander said.

Salinas police received a report at 9:29 a.m. Wednesday of a man in a black skull mask, black pullover sweatshirt and gloves pull a gun and rob the Taco Bell at 6 Maple St., police Cmdr. David Crabill said.

The man demanded money from employees and ran away east on Chestnut Street with an unknown amount of cash, Crabill said.

At 9:47 a.m., police were then called to a Carl’s Jr. at 400 E. Market St., where employees reported that a gunman in a black skull mask, dark sunglasses, black pants, jacket and shoes walked in and ordered workers and customers to the ground, Crabill said.

The suspect demanded and received some money, then fled on foot and was last seen running toward Neil and Merced streets, Crabill said.

Police believe both robberies are related but did not immediately have more information about the suspect, Crabill said.
