Authorities say a Southern California man has been arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer and possessing a stolen cache of weapons including assault rifles and grenades.

The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/1dr9WbH) 37-year-old Jeffrey Edmonds had a counterfeit badge and identified himself as a Los Angeles Police Department captain.

Sheriff’s officials say detectives tracked Edmonds while investigating a report of stolen weapons from a firearms manufacturer in Castaic.

Department detectives served a search warrant at Edmonds’ Simi Valley home and recovered more than two dozen rifles and guns. They also found tactical gear including bulletproof vests, helmets and gas masks.

Edmonds was charged with grand theft, weapons violations and impersonating an officer. He is being held in county jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
