Man arrested on suspicion of molesting children

A 38-year-old man suspected of molesting children for the past 15 years in parts of Monterey and Santa Cruz counties was arrested Tuesday, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Lorenzo Ledesma, who also uses the last name Resendiz, was arrested at his Royal Oaks home in unincorporated Monterey County on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts on children and child molestation, sheriff’s deputies said.

Investigators located and arrested Ledesma, who was employed as a cannery laborer, at about 4 p.m. Tuesday following a report about his involvement in recent child molestations, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies believe that Ledesma also committed lewd and lascivious acts on a number of children over a period of about 15 years in the Royal Oaks and Aromas areas of Monterey County and the city of Watsonville in Santa Cruz County.

Ledesma was booked into Monterey County Jail in Salinas on multiple felony counts related to the sexual abuse of children, sheriff’s deputies said.

Sheriff’s officials urge anyone with information about the case to call Deputy Scott Davis, Detective Kim Smith or Detective Larry Bryant at (831) 755-3772.
