Los Angeles police are investigating the death of a University of Southern California graduate student in an off-campus apartment.
University Provost Elizabeth Garrett says in a letter to the campus community that the engineering student died of a head injury, apparently sometime Thursday morning.
Police spokesman Bruce Borihanh says the student was from China and investigators are trying to determine whether he was assaulted.
The student’s name has been withheld pending notification of his family.
Garrett’s letter adds that there is no apparent threat to the campus community.
In 2012, two engineering graduate students from China were shot to death in a car about a mile from campus. Police said the shooting involved a robbery. One of two men charged with the killings pleaded guilty to murder.
