“Images of Chinatown” exhibition

(Excerpt from press release)

As the first exhibition in the Episode series, the Chinese Culture Foundation welcomes Images of Chinatown, photographs by Maurice H. Edelstein. Edelstein’s work was selected to launch the series because of his long-standing photography career that has documented change and transformation in Chinatown. He has also been a respected friend within the community and with the Chinese Culture Foundation.

This retrospective solo exhibition will examine the lives of residents framed by everyday street backdrops. A frequently ignored subject overshadowed by Chinatown as a tourist spot itself, Edelstein’s photography gives the spotlight to the people who live and work within Chinatown, one of the densest neighborhoods in the country. Additionally, historical photos such as the protest of the I-hotel, depicts the activist history and vibrancy of the community.

Opening: January 13, 2013 from 1pm-4pm
