Home invasion suspect charged in four other incidents

One of the suspects in the home-invasion robbery and shooting of an 81-year-old woman at her home in Oakland last month was charged today in that incident as well as four other incidents.

Shaquez Willard, 18, was charged with home invasion robbery for the incident in the 4100 block of Laguna Avenue at about 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 28 in which Beverly Concannon was shot in her left shoulder.

Concannon was hospitalized after she was shot but has since been released.

Oakland police said today that three other suspects have been arrested in connection with that incident but refused to release their names. Police said one of the other suspects is 19, the other two are 16 and all four suspects, including Willard, have a history of committing thefts.

Oakland police said in a probable cause statement filed in court that Willard and the other three young men broke into Concannon’s home and shot her in her left shoulder.

Police said the four suspects “have been linked to multiple burglaries and shootings through statements and physical evidence.”

In addition to the Concannon incident, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Willard with assault with a semiautomatic weapon for an alleged attack on a woman on Jan. 31.

It also charged him with first-degree residential burglary for allegedly unlawfully entering a man’s home, also on Jan. 31, with attempted first-degree residential burglary for allegedly entering a woman’s home on Jan. 24 and with first-degree residential burglary for allegedly unlawfully entering a man’s home on Jan. 25.

Willard, who is being held in custody without bail, is scheduled to be arraigned at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
