By Bay City News Service

A 49-year-old Santa Rosa man was killed Saturday evening when he was hit by a car while riding a mountain bike in Forestville, a California Highway Patrol sergeant said.

A Sonoma County coroner’s office employee said this morning that the man’s name is being withheld until his family has been notified of his death.

The man was riding south on Mirabel Road south of Speer Ranch Road around 7:30 p.m. when he was hit from behind by a 1988 Toyota 4Runner driven by 59-year-old Pamela J. Shirley, of Forestville, CHP Sgt. Rick Fondersmith said.

The impact threw the bicyclist off his bike and onto the right shoulder. He was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shirley said she did not see the bicyclist, Fondersmith said.

Fondersmith said it does not appear alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
