A five-year-old boy who was stolen by a 53-year-old woman in Nanchang city, East China’s Jiangxi Province, was rescued by the policemen Thursday in Southeast China’s Fujian Province.

The woman was also arrested by the policemen.

The boy Zhang Junyu was playing with his grandmother at Nanchang’s Bayi Square at 16:30 on February 27, when the woman saw him and stole him secretly.

The boy’s grandmother recalled that she was doing her word at the square that day. After going to the bathroom, she temporarily got distracted by something and forgot about her grandson momentarily.

After searching in many places such as the nearby railway station and bus station, the grandmother and the families didn’t get any clue of the boy.

“We thought he had got lost, so we called the police, however, no information about him was received in the police station, and then we worried a lot about him after waiting for a long time,” said Chen Yuehua, uncle of the boy.

Chen then wrote in a microblog where the news about the lost boy was soon spread widely. Many people nationwide began help in searching for the boy.

In the meantime, a special group of policemen in Nanchang was founded and after 200 hours’ investigation, a suspect was targeted.

Surveillance video shows the boy went away with a woman in red coat on the square. After leaving the square, the woman took a taxi to another district, and then took a motorcycle taxi to a market, and then disappeared in a route not equipped with surveillance videos.

To find the suspect, groups of policemen were dispatched and finally spotted the home of the suspect.

However, when investigating in the suspect’s community, policemen learned that the woman had taken Zhang Junyu out of Nanchang.

So a “wanted” poster was up online and with effective cooperation from other provinces, the police finally rescued the boy and arrested the suspect.

The suspect, surnamed Wan, said she was in deep debts from indulging in gambling.

When hanging around on the Bayi Square that day, she noticed the boy and decided to steal him.

She tried to chat up with the grandmother and took the boy away when nobody noticed.

It is reported that Wan has trafficked many kids in many places across Fujian province. The case is under further investigation.
