At least five people were injured after an explosion took place at a chemical plant in Huojia County, central China’s Henan Province, on Tuesday.
According to reports, the blast occurred at around 08:10 at a chemical plant of Henan Coal and Chemical Industry Group. The explosion affected an area of about 100 square meters, damaging pipes and shattering windows on buildings nearby.
Local authorities said the plant’s five workers were injured by the shattered glass and were rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
After nearly seven hours of rescue efforts, the fire has been put out. Four fire trucks were further cooling the explosion site.
According to the fire department, the blast was caused by a low-temperature methanol leakage. And thanks to timely emergency response, the explosion did not lead to a secondary leakage of chemicals.
A special task team consisting of forces from local fire department and public security bureau has been set up to launch probe into the case.
