A father and his son in feud resorted to a prolonged car chase in a busy city on Wednesday, which ended in a crash that ruined both vehicles.
Monitor video showed that a silver-and-gray Mercedes Benz limousine and a red BMW sports car had been trying to overtake each other on a main road in Ma’anshan of eastern China’s Anhui Province.
The Benz stopped at a crossroad at around 10:50 and then suddenly backed and knocked into the BMW that had been keeping up.
The road chase did not let up just there; instead, the two drivers kept close distance and took turns dashing against each other.
“I saw a red car spinning right there as if it were in a karting race. It then slammed into the dark-color limousine,” said a storekeeper who witnessed the incident.
She added that the two cars collided several times in full force.
The drama lasted about four minutes, footage showed.
And then the driver of the red BMW abandoned his car and ran away quickly. The Benz owner, not ready to give in, also got out, whipping his belt in fury and running up to chase his rival driver.
The two cars, both seriously damaged, were left at the site abandoned until traffic police came to tow them away.
“This accident was not caused by a single collision considering that both cars show signs of multiple crashes. We have notified the local police station to take care of this case because the drivers were no longer available at the scene,” said Yang Xiaoyu, a traffic police officer in Ma’anshan.
The two drivers, who have now been tracked down and confirmed as father and son who were in feud or out of reason.
They may face charges of dangerous driving, police said.
An investigation is still under way.
