A two-year-old girl fell from the fifth-floor window of her home in east China’s Zhejiang Province on Thursday, but luckily was saved by a group of couriers who noticed her on the window’s ledge mere moments before she plummeted.
Five express mail carriers were taking a break at around 11:00 in Geshuiyang village of Ninghai County, Zhejiang Province, when they heard the crying of a little girl who was sitting on a fifth-floor window ledge.
They rushed over and stood under the window. Just as they started to discuss how to assist the girl, she fell. Fortunately the men were there to save her life.
As seen in surveillance footage, the men managed to cushion the fall. Although the girl does hit the ground after slipping through the men’s hands, the impact was greatly reduced and the girl was able to stand just after the incident.
The only apparent injury the girl sustained was a bruise on the outer side of one eye. Two of the couriers were injured, one on the neck and the other on the arm. They said they saved the falling girl out of instinct.
“I didn’t think much, I just went up to save her when the child dropped,” said Lou Guobing, whose neck was injured.
The girl hit courier Yang Wenqiu’s arm. In the video footage he is seen in great pain after saving the girl. Lou is also seen in the footage holding his neck and appearing in pain.
The girl’s parents said they went out to buy some medicine while their daughter was asleep. They didn’t expect that the girl would wake up so soon and climb onto the window.
“She fell asleep in my wife’s arms. Then we went to the nearby pharmacy. It was such a short while, as I said we’d return quickly,” said Xue, father of the girl.
