Mindfulness Practices for Children via Play

Stress and anxiety are common struggles in modern day life that effect not only adults but also children.  Dharma Drum Mountain has designed a program to entertain children aged between 6 and 11 years old while introducing them to relaxation and the concepts of mindfulness through art, literature, and a wide variety of fun games. It can help decrease stress, anger and anxiety while increasing self-esteem and self-awareness. Dharma Drum Mountain is a Chan Buddhism non-profit organization located in Fremont focused on teaching Buddhist compassion and wisdom with the goal to achieve harmony and equanimity of the body and mind. The Youth program is held bi-weekly at the Dharma Drum Mountain Center as well as Nile Community Park right across the street.

Senior Computer Help Program

Every Saturday, older adults can make friends with their computers or electronic gadgets. The Fremont library will provide trained high school teen volunteers to help older adults learn to use the Internet, email, word processing, computer basics and more. Individuals may drop in with their questions or take a structured lesson on the following topics: Computer Basics, Windows Basics, Microsoft Word Basics, Internet Basics, or Email Basics. Lessons or tutoring will be conducted on a one-on-one basis.

The teen volunteers will also help with electronic gadgets such as cell phones, digital cameras, iPads, or ebook readers.

Free Cantonese Support Group for Family Members of Problem Gamblers

Chinese Community Problem Gambling Project will be conducting six sessions of free support groups for affected family members of problem gamblers beginning October 20th through November 24th, every Monday morning from 10:00am to 11:30am, at a location in the Richmond district of San Francisco.

Support group sessions will be conducted in Cantonese. Sessions will be led by experienced support group facilitator and supervised by a licensed practitioner. Support Group service is free, and family members of problem gamblers troubled by gambling problems are encouraged to attend.

Happiness Talk/Workshop

“Happiness Talk/Workshop” is a practical talk on the Psychology of Happiness, satisfaction and a meaningful life. In this fun, interactive, and lighthearted talk, Javy W. Galindo explains how happiness need not be pursued, but chosen. Galindo shares seven insights from his new book “Authentic Happiness in Seven Emails” on how to choose happiness and why it is often a difficult choice to make.

Jay W. Galindo is lecturer in John F Kennedy University and De Anza College. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Free Community Outreach

Free services will include blood pressure, fingertip blood sugar (fasting required), height, weight and body fat measurements, as well as the free medical consultations and treatments. It will be offered in the areas of internal medicine, Chinese medicine,  dental, chiropractic, and vision services. Tzu Chi dental mobile van will be on-site providing the service. Walgreen will be offering free flu shot to eligible public on the same day in same site. The  eligibility of flu shot is according to CDC guidelines. People with medical insurance should bring the insurance card for billing.

This community outreach is open to public, serve regardless race, religion, sex, nationality. All staffs and medical professionals in the health fair are volunteers. Through the donation of their time, professional skills, and love, Tzu Chi hopes people in local communities can benefit from this free event, and hence, create a healthy society with love. Medicare Outreach Health Fair

The student pharmacists at the University of the Pacific would like to cordially invite all Medicare eligible beneficiaries of the community to our Medicare Outreach and Health Fair event this coming fall.  At the event,  the student pharmacists will be helping new patients sign up or review Medicare part D plans with beneficiaries that have already signed up. Their goal is to help patients find the plan that is most suitable to their needs while being cost-friendly. The event will also be offering services to review beneficiaries’ medications for safety and efficacy, as well as providing (flu) immunizations and health screening stations such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and bone mineral density, etc.. All of these services will be of no charge to attendees.

Dual-beneficiaries (Medicare and Medi-Cal) are welcomed as well!

Please bring your Medicare cards (along with your Medi-cal card, if you have one) and medications with you. You may call to schedule an appointment, but walk-ins are always welcomed!!
