Sea Lion Anniversary at PIER 39

PIER 39 is celebrating the 28th Anniversary of the sea lions’ arrival to The PIER, January 1 – 28! Enjoy daily programming at the Sea Lion Center every half hour from 10:30am – 3:30pm including Sea Lion Shenanigans, Party for the Planet Blue, What’s for Lunch? and Floatin’ with the Sea Lions of San Francisco. While you are there, sign the Sea Lion Love Wall. On January 13 -15 and January 20 – 21, participate in the Sea Lion Encounter educational walking tours led by naturalists hourly from 12 – 3pm. Lunar New Year Celebration: Calligraphy and Concert!

Join us for a Lunar New Year Celebration, with a calligraphy demonstration, concert, and refreshments!

1:30-2:30pm Calligraphy Demonstration by Mak Ming Chan

Chinese calligrapher Mak Ming Chan will demonstrate the 5 calligraphy styles, large and small, with phrases to celebrate the Lunar New Year. A select few will be raffled off! (must be present to win)

Mr. Mak Ming Chan of Ming’s Chinese Calligraphy is an esteemed artist and teacher of calligraphy. His works appear in the Hong Kong Museum of Art and China’s National Museum, and commissions include a large piece adorning the new CCSF Chinatown building.

Year of the Dog : Celebrating Lunar New Year

Please join us to celebrate the Year of the Dog. Enjoy extraordinary show of bands, Shaolin Kung Fu, folk dance, line dance, singing, instruments, a Chinese ethnic fashion show and the Year of the Dog quiz with prizes. The Lunar New Year program is co-sponsored with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco. The program will be conducted in English and Chinese.

Tulipmania at PIER 39

PIER 39’s iconic floral festival, Tulipmania, returns from February 10 – 18 with more than 39,000 blooming tulips and other seasonal garden favorites! As you immerse yourself in insta-heaven, be sure to share your photos using #tulipmania. Enjoy the flowers’ beauty and learn helpful gardening tips by taking free guided tours led by PIER 39’s Landscaping experts. The guided tours depart at 10am daily from the Crab Statue in the Entrance Plaza. Self-guided tours can also be taken any time during Tulipmania.
