The world’s coolest cars of every era and style, model-T fire engines, vintage busses, custom motorcycles, tricked out trucks, sleek streamliners, one-of-a-kind antique engines and tractors and historic military aircraft will be among the mesmerizing displays.

Colors of Asia: Cultural Fashion Show

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and the Oakland Asian Culural Center will have a fashion show that showcases different Asian ethnic costumes to educate the community on the beauty and differences of traditional attire. There will be costumes from different Chinese minorities, Japanese Kimonos, Korean Hanbok, and more! Aside from the fashion show and displaying of the beautiful traditional attire, there will be cultural performances such as Indian and Mongolian dance. Mother’s Day Rose Show at the Hall of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. Exhibitors show their award-winning garden roses starting at 12:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. View the many types of roses, from hybrid teas, grandifloras, miniatures, David Austin roses, to old garden roses. There will be rose arrangements and a photography show/competition. A variety of show roses will be available after the show.

Bring your moms, cameras, questions, and love of beautiful flowers. We will sell our book, “Growing Roses in a Maritime Climate,” tailored to meet the needs of roses growing in San Francisco. The Hall of Flowers is located at the entry on 9th Avenue to Golden Gate Park.

Thingyan Myanmar New Year Water Festival

Thingyan festival is the most unique and joyous celebration of the new year in Myanmar. The festival is celebrated with water as a symbol of flowing of time, washing away past misdeeds to provide spiritual renewal, and welcoming the seasonal monsoon to bring bountiful new beginnings. The Myanmar Community and Cultural Center Committee is holding a Thingyan event in Union City to help the Myanmar-American community of Northern California celebrate in a collective fashion here in the San Francisco Bay Area. There will be Burmese traditional dance performances, foods from various regions of Myanmar , traditional ceremony of paying respect to community elders, cultural exhibitions, Thingyan Yein (group) dance, many fun activities and a designated area to play with water just like we do in our native land.
