WHAT: Lunar New Year 2017

Continue ushering in the New Year at the annual Lunar New Year celebration at Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose. Traditionally observed by many Asian cultures, this festival is open to anyone wanting to have fun reveling in the lively Lion Dance, making culturally-relevant art and crafts, and enjoying traditional and contemporary music and dance performances – all while learning about the cultures and customs of family and friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
Adults and youngsters will have a blast:

  • Visiting the petting zoo with live roosters and chickens from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat. & Sun.
  • Being thrilled by the spectacular Lion Dance by Buu Kim Tu group from 1 – 1:30 Sat.& Sun.
  • Music and dance performances by Orchard School Asian Cultural Performance Troupe, Fire Bird Youth Orchestra, Silicon Valley Chinese Orchestra, Crystal Children’s Choir, Fire Phoenix and Sun Rise, Iris Group and BCS Chinese Music Group
  • Creating beautiful arts and crafts including paper abacuses, zodiac paper-folding and figurines
  • Learning calligraphy from artist Jin Feng

As part of the museum’s Cultural Celebration series, the museum is committed to promoting the region’s diversity so that families of all backgrounds can explore the many cultures and traditions in Silicon Valley.

Lunar New Year joins other museum celebrations including Dia de los Muertos, Diwali Festival, Menorahs and Miracles, El Dia de los Tres Reyes Magos, Children of the Dragon, Proud of My Family, Lantern Festival, and Family Lunadas.

Cost of admission:

Adults: $13;  Children: $13;  Seniors: $12;  infants and members are free. Festivities are included in the price of admission.
The Lunar New Year is created in partnership with the Museum’s Cultural Advisors.
