Gilroy Gardens: LUMINATION 2016

As the sun sets, Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park will be transformed into a dramatic display of spectacular sights and sounds from ancient China. You will be whisked away to another time and place as you stroll through colossal light displays that illuminate over 2,000 years of Chinese history and culture.

These incredible displays—some towering as high as 6 stories into the night sky—include giant dragons, mythical Qilin, and playful pandas, as well as historic landmarks like the Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, and Terracotta Warriors.

This exciting event also includes a bustling artisan marketplace and live performances. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Dream of the Red Chamber

San Francisco Opera,Dream of the Red Chamber, September 10-29, 2015. SF Opera presents the world premiere of Chinese-American composer Bright Sheng’s Dream of the Red Chamber, with a libretto by the composer and David Henry Hwang in six performances from September 10-29, 2015. Commissioned by SF Opera, the work is a copproduction with the Hong Kong Arts Festival and will be performed March 2017 at the Grand Theater in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre as part of its 45th annual festival. Based on one of the quintessential works of world literature, Sheng and Hwang’s opera explores the characters at the heart of Chinese author Cao Xueqin’s 18th century novel and communicates their story as a vivid musical and theatrical experience.

Creativity Explored, the premier nonprofit visual art gallery and studio for artists with developmental disabilities, presents Natural History, a group exhibition that transforms the gallery into a miniature museum complete with bone sculptures and diorama. In this multi-media exhibition, Creativity Explored artists explore astronomy, geology, prehistoric science, and flora and fauna using a range of art practices including painting, sculpture, drawing, and installation.

PUSHfest honors diversity in dance, and audiences have the opportunity to experience distinct
perspectives on dance at one of the Bay Area’s leading performance venues. The Festival
comprises two programs featuring choreography by artists currently active in different disciplines of dance including modern, ballet, hiphop, ethnic, and multidisciplinary. This exciting new season will feature three world premieres, including Mothership (Part I) by Artistic Director Raissa Simpson, new works by Resident Choreographer Katerina Wong, and PUSH Dancers Ashley Gayle and Noah James, and performances by local artists and visiting artists from Chicago and St. Louis.
