Get eye to eye with a butterfly in the exhibit Butterflies & Blooms at the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. The popular exhibit has been extended by overwhelming demand until January 7, 2018. The Special Exhibit gallery has been transformed into a beautiful and intimate cottage garden aflutter with hundreds of butterflies on the wing including magnificent monarchs, western swallowtails, painted ladies, and more.

The Butterfly Bungalow at the entrance to the gallery also allows you to observe the pupae in their chrysalis stage. You never know, you may be lucky enough to catch the moment when one of these delicate beauties emerges.

- A Musical Fairy Tale, with book, music and lyrics by award-winning Bay Area playwright Min Kahng. Based upon the Hans Christian Andersen fairy-tale, THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE is an enchanting, pop musical romp for the whole family that reminds us that true beauty and worth is always found within.

San Francisco Trolley Dances returns with performances from the city’s South of Market to Golden Gate Park. An annual, admission-free festival that takes place each October, SFTD has been dubbed “art for citizens” and “a gift to the City.” A total of 12 tours are scheduled over the weekend, six each day starting at 11am, 11:45am, 12:30pm, 1:15pm, 2pm and 2:45pm. Each tour runs approximately two hours. This year, audiences will get a taste of traditional Tibetan folk dance and music, dance theater, contact improvisation, hip hop, taiko drumming and much more.

Acclaimed for its elegance, vivid theatricality and virtuosity, the choreographer Lily Cai and the Lily Cai Dance Company will present audience an evening length concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 21st and 3:30 p.m. Sunday October 22nd at the Fort Mason Center’s Cowell Theater. The company’s distinctive Chinese classicism again blends with Western modern dance to present 4 works “The Mist Beneath”, “SenseScape II”, “Shifting” and “SilkCascade.”

Formerly a principal dancer with the Shanghai Opera House, Lily Cai founded Lily Cai Chinese Dance in 1988. She has since choreographed numerous dances which have brought contemporary choreographic perspective and theatricality to works rooted in traditional Chinese dance forms. Lily Cai Dance has been ranked as among the top Chinese modern dance companies in America. The choreographer Lily Cai has won numerous awards and commissions for her works.
